Senior/Principal Performance & Applications Engineer (145400GC2) Renfrewshire, Scotland

Salary: GBP50 - GBP55 per hour

Our client is looking for a Senior/Principal Performance & Applications Engineer for a minimum 9 month contract opportunity based in Renfrew.

Performance / Applications Engineer who has significant knowledge of closed cycle gas turbine technology and its application.
The candidate will be responsible for power generation projects of which one or more will be CCGT technology based.
Provide specialist technical services, support and advice to the relevant functions and departments as per company policies, engineering standards and industry practices on the design selection, performance and optimization of CCGT plant and auxiliary systems.

Accountabilities:

Initiate, lead & participate in the development of heat and mass balances using industry proven software tools (Thermo flex, GT.Pro) to recommend solutions and coordinate corrective actions for gas / steam turbine mechanical equipment problems through detailed technical reports.
Lead and supervise the Thermal Plant Performance Modelling, including the generation of the PFD’s and PID’s as per the company policies, engineering standards and industry practices.
Provide input to the requirements of the balance of plant, equipment lists, material selection to and work within and support team of cross-functional engineers.
Consult and work closely with client, contractors, manufacturers, suppliers and internal engineering departments during the design of power plant or modifications.
Provide technical support and technically supervise all activities associated with specifying and ordering gas / steam turbine mechanical new build, equipment overhaul, repairs and troubleshooting for ensuring integrity of the equipment enabling continuity of operations.
Act as a single point of contact and work closely with the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) Technical Advisor of gas / steam turbine equipment when they are employed by the Company to perform a specialist task and carry out inspection and acceptance tests on all existing machinery equipment and newly installed on-site and occasionally at vendors premises
Provide necessary support in the development of young engineers in the application and use thermal plant modelling.
Provide guidance and support to commissioning teams either working from

Office based role or a site based role.

Knowledge & Experience:

Essential

Minimum Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Prior experience gained within an engineering consultancy, power machinery or power plant setting.
10 years’ experience in a Gas / steam turbine environment of which there will be experience in a senior supervisory / lead engineer capacity.
Knowledge of fluid mechanics, application of thermodynamic and heat transfer theory to Brayton and Rankine Power cycles.
Working knowledge of Power plants and major equipment performance and operation and understanding of performance calculations.
Strong mechanical engineering / O& M knowledge of HRSG’s, auxiliary systems, steam raising plant and packaged plant items.
Sound knowledge of International Standards and related industry best practices.
Proven track record of analytical, good interpersonal and communication skills.
Desirable
Understanding latest carbon capture technologies
Familiarity with thermal cycle design optimization and life cycle costs.
