The Background
I am recruiting for a Senior Quality Engineer or a Principal Engineer to join a leading global engineering consultancy to join their Vehicle Engineering Department. Reporting into the Vehicle Test and Development Team leader, the successful candidate will lead the quality activities in the department and be responsible for ensuring the quality of engineering design and development activity.

The Role
As a Senior Quality Engineer or Principal Quality Engineer you will:
• Lead the creation and development of DFMEAs and related documentation to a high standard within the scope of the project and to the project deadlines
• Ensure customer quality requirements are clearly understood and communicated to the team
• Report and track programme quality status against programme gateway requirements
• Ensure that required data on open quality issues is updated on time in project issue-tracking systems
• Advise colleagues in all matters relating to quality systems
• Present the status of documentation and issues in team and project meetings
• Track quality issues and test failures, working with component owners, suppliers and other stakeholders to facilitate their fast and effective resolution
• Organize and lead cross functional problem solving teams through root cause identification, verification and corrective action steps including preventive actions
• Mentor and train engineers in the use of quality tools, work to propagate and champion best practice across the project and department

To be a successful Senior Quality Engineer or Principal Quality Engineer you will have:
• Previous experience in a similar role in the automotive industry
• Degree qualified or equivalent within a relevant engineering subject
• Experience and understanding of the NPI process from Concept Design through to Product Launch
• Experienced and expert user of DFMEA and related quality tools
• Experience of leading issue resolution activities using a range of tools including root cause analysis, 8D problem solving resolution and auditing
• Understanding of engineering drawings and manufacturing processes
• Pragmatic approach with good problem solving ability
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills at all levels
• Strong presentation skills
• A leader and team player
• Confident and robust character with a drive and motivation to succeed
• Thorough with good attention to detail
• An ability to work under pressure and tight timescales to resolve high-priority issues
