The Background
I am recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer to join a specialist Research and Development company on a 10 month contract based at their laboratory in Didcot. In this role you will take ownership for initial provision and though life support of Mechanical systems. The position provides through life equipment support to various Project Teams.

The Role
As a Mechanical Engineer you will:
• Collaborate closely with scientific and engineering teams to evolve laser upgrade schemes for future capability as well as support for the current infrastructure
• Project manage the production, assembly and commissioning of funded schemes
• Conceptual design, detail design and detailing of complex precision hardware
• Place and progress orders for the manufacture of components and assemblies, and procurement of standard hardware
• Supervise and lead contract design effort as required to meet the objectives of the facility.
• Carry out analysis and calculations as required to ensure engineering designs comply with sound engineering practice.
• Be responsible for the safety and life cycle of the hardware/project in their control.

You…
To be a successful Mechanical Engineer you will have:
• A sound knowledge of mechanical engineering, manufacturing techniques and materials.
• Experience of Design software such as Solid Edge 3D CAD
• Knowledge of pressure systems and gas technology.
• Knowledge of vacuum technology.
• A sound understanding of mechanical engineering safety issues.
• Able to perform the normal calculations associated with mechanical engineering.
• Able to work from drawings and written/verbal instructions.
• Flexible, able to work with engineers and other disciplines, both staff and visiting scientists.
• Experience of leading project work
• Excellent Communication skills
• Self-motivated and disciplined.
• Able to work in a team with a can-do attitude.
• Computer literate, able to generate mechanical drawings and keep computer records.
• Able to work under pressure to deadlines.
