Biotechnologist Tech Transfer Specialist (IT-CT 010) Catania, Italy
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to Fermentation Manager, the position is responsible for planning, execution and reporting activities related to laboratory and pilot studies for product transfers, process improvements and research projects.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES - MAIN TASKS
Follows process improvement projects in thefermentation department (e.g. increase yield, reduce cycle time, increase capacity, reduce deviations, etc.)
Analyzes process data to identify opportunities, prepares experimental plans and carry out experiments
Supports the technical transfer team of new products and processes
Provides for all tasks adherence to EHS and GMP guidelines Plans and reports results from laboratory and pilot microbiological and fermentation studies
Performs Process and media dovelopment trials
Research and develops new vegetative and fermentation media.
Set up process data collection (database), analyzes data and prepares reports and presentations
Interacts with academic partners
Perform engineering calculation for scale-up, equipment capacity, compatibility, utility requirements for the new product
Prepare scheduling, Gantt chart, respecting timeline agreed with stakeholders
Preparation of Process Flow Diagram, Drawings, Operating Procedures, Study Protocols, Summary reports related to the new product to be transferred
Equipments selection & Facility proposal for pre-validation & validation batches as per process demand
Observe R&D domo batch & give suggestion about scalability, process robustness & improvements
Involve in OOS investigation & CAPA recommendation for the new & CIP process
Involve in HAZOP and PSA

EDUCATION
Bachelor’s Degree in Biotechnology, microbiology, or related discipline
Experimental thesis in biotechnology
Minimum experience abroad is considered a plus
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of industrial or academic experience in biotechnology R&D is required
TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
Demonstrated good theoretical basis and operational experience in Microbial Biotechnology, molecular biology and bioengineering with Streptomycetes and/or Actinomycetes
Technical Laboratory Experience in: preparation of culture media and solutions, work in chemical and biological hoods, culture of bacteria in both solid and liquid medium, spectrophotometer applications in estimating the quantity and quality of various extracts, HPLC applications, GC/MS gas-liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry for content and monomer composition
Strong sense of responsibility, excellent written and spoken communication and management ability, good speaking and listening English
Proficient in office software like Words, PowerPoint, Excel, Visio and Project
Demonstrated good innovation and team work
Planning and organizing ability
Ability to communicate with other departments
EHS awareness and ability to identify risks
Ability to carry out urgent tasks
Must be self-motivated and flexible to learn and respond to changing responsibilities and priorities.
