Mechanical Engineer

Mechanical Engineer (15249366/001) Sunderland, England

We are Recruiting for a Mechanical Engineer for a Defence Client in Sunderland on an initial 12 month contract, paying £42.51 an hour LTD.

This role will involve working on fast paced prototype programmes related to major platform contracts. As a Mechanical Engineer, your specific role will focus on the design, integration, test and build of equipment at the system and sub-system levels, in order to deliver high performing products within wider project timescales.

Main Responsibilities

• Undertake the mechanical design tasks associated with the development of specific systems/equipment, involving:
◦Detailed design, including the development of production drawings.
◦Carry out engineering calculations as required to justify a proposed course of action.
◦Input to relevant safety cases.
◦Assisting in the validation of systems/equipment, including the generation of test schedules, test and integration plans and the writing/investigation of test problem reports.
◦Engagement with key suppliers.
◦Contribute to the planning process required to schedule work.
◦Managing technical issues.
•Support integration, build, test and demonstration activities.


The Individual

•Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant discipline with at sufficient postgraduate experience within an engineering environment.
•Good interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
•Be self-motivated and be able to work with the minimum of supervision within a team environment.
•Competent in the following software packages:
◦Siemens NX.
◦Microsoft office, including Microsoft Visio.
◦Document management systems such as Teanmcenter.
◦Business management systems such as SAP.

•Good awareness of:

◦Security implications for technical material.
◦Commercial considerations.
◦Workplace Health and Safety.
•Remote working will be possible, with a reasonable amount of travel to support engagement with the wider team/product.

Desirable

•Finite Element Analysis tools such as Pro Mechanica or Ansys.
•Dynamic simulation or analysis tools such as ADAMS.
•Experience of either automotive, or suspension or tracked vehicle systems.
